Clinical pearls
Widow envenomation in young children may present with generalized abdominal rigidity that mimics surgical abdomen. Toxicology consultation is recommended in suspected cases.
Loxoscelism in children carries a higher rate of systemic hemolysis. Baseline and serial CBC, urinalysis, and renal function are appropriate when systemic features are present.
