Indications
Severe pain unresponsive to opioids and benzodiazepines, autonomic instability (severe hypertension, tachycardia), respiratory compromise, or symptoms in patients with significant comorbidity.
Cautions
Equine-derived; pretreatment for hypersensitivity is standard. In Australia, comparable Latrodectus antivenom efficacy has been questioned by the RAVE-II trial, prompting more conservative use globally.
