Integrated pest management for brown recluse infestation

Established Loxosceles reclusa infestations in homes and outbuildings require a combined sticky-trap monitoring, exclusion, and targeted application program. Single-event spraying does not eliminate cryptic populations.

Monitoring with sticky traps

Place flat glue boards in undisturbed areas (closets, behind furniture, basements, attics) and inventory weekly. Trap counts indicate population scale and harborage location and drive treatment focus.

Habitat reduction and treatment

Remove clutter; store seasonal items in sealed totes. Vacuum harborage areas thoroughly, including egg sacs, and dispose of the bag. Crack-and-crevice insecticide application by a licensed PCO is appropriate for confirmed heavy infestations.
